TURNING DREAMS INTO REALITY
It was six years ago, while on a family road trip to Virginia, that the Lewis Family discovered Batteries Plus. After their truck broke down and they were in need of immediate assistance, the Lewis Family came upon a Batteries Plus. They were blown away by the customer service and the concept. “We had an incredible experience and from that point on, Victor always kept his eye on them as a brand that he wanted to invest in,” said Audrey. Little did they know that the initial inconvenience of needing a new car battery would lead the Lewis family to the entrepreneurial opportunity they’d been searching for.
Although Victor didn’t have any previous entrepreneurial experience, he’d always envisioned himself as a business owner. He expressed this interest and passion with Audrey and knew when the time was right, the opportunity would find him.
A FAMILY AFFAIR
In May 2021, two months before Victor passed, the couple signed a three-store deal with Batteries Plus. Despite losing her husband and the father of her children, Audrey persevered and continued the process of franchise ownership with the help of her children.
In a little less than a year, Audrey and her children opened their first Batteries Plus location in April 2022 in Long Island, NY. Each member of the Lewis family brings a valuable role and skillset to the success of their Batteries Plus location.
Audrey runs the back-office operations. Victor and Audrey’s eldest son Victor Jr., who studied computer science at Johnson & Wales University, currently works as the general manager. Audrey’s daughter, Netanya Lewis is a graduate from Syracuse University, oversees the franchise’s commercial clients. And Audrey’s youngest son, Joshua also works at the store as a salesperson, while he wraps up his senior year of high school.
Although there have been hurdles, the Lewis family has depended on each other to overcome obstacles. Individually, they have shown remarkable teamwork which has resulted in the great success of their business.
BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH BATTERIES PLUS
As a Veteran and a former first lady of a church, Audrey knows how to strategically run a successful business and spread kindness to every individual she meets. “Whether someone goes to church or not, we have to share God’s love through kindness. That’s what goes with Batteries Plus, family-oriented values, that first impression matters to feel accepted and loved by our faith,” said Audrey. The Lewis family is doing an outstanding job of continuing Victor Sr.’s legacy by owning a Batteries Plus and making a positive impact on community members.
In addition to owning a Batteries Plus franchise, Audrey owns a non-profit food pantry known as E Joy Community Resource Center located in Roslyn Heights, NY. “I believe that everyone has a duty to lead and live with kindness,” said Audrey. Their daughter Netanya is also doing community outreach as a children’s book author who has made it her duty to instill into the youth in her community that they are important, necessary, and needed. Ms. Lewis is also a recipient of the 30 under 30 award for the Young Professionals network, as well as an active member of the Huntington Township Chamber Of Commerce. Netanya is dedicated to making each and every neighborhood a better place to live and work. To continue their good deeds within the community, they plan to be a veteran-friendly business and tap into the Veteran community as they run their Batteries Plus franchise.
