2022 was a year of big growth for our successful light bulb, key fob, phone repair store, and battery store franchise. Between new franchisees and current ones continuing to expand with the brand, we inked 60 new deals in 2022 and are set for multi-unit expansions in South Florida and Long Island, NY.
Plus, throughout 2023, we’ll break into several new markets like Ohio, Nevada, New Mexico and Southern California. From celebrating 30 years in franchising to welcoming new faces to our executive team, giving back and gaining national recognition, we’re setting up for an equally strong year ahead.
Celebrating 30 Years of Batteries Plus Franche
For 34 years, Batteries Plus has been offering expert solutions to customers – even through recessions and the COVID-19 pandemic. As an essential business, our stores are always in demand, and this is one of many reasons so many entrepreneurs have invested in Batteries Plus throughout the years.
It was 1988 when our first store in Green Bay, Wisconsin opened and just four years later, the first franchised location opened in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We’ve achieved many milestones throughout the past three decades, but there’s still plenty more in store for our rapidly-growing franchise.
“Batteries Plus still has plenty of untapped potential,” said CEO Scott Williams. “With an impressive executive team such as ours and a force of 250+ franchisees in our system, our brand is capitalizing on the knowledge and advantages we’ve created for ourselves to position our brand to continue to deliver the best of the best for the battery-powered present and future.”
Building Our Executive Team to Support Franchisees
The Batteries Plus team welcomed several new faces in 2022, including Derek Detenber, who was appointed as Chief Marketing and Merchandising Officer, Aaron Bundschuh as Chief Digital Officer, Scott Buchalter as Director of Franchise Relations, and Hugh Robertson as Director of Exit Strategy Support.
We were also proud to promote many on our existing team – with Jon Sica being elevated to Chief Business Officer in March along with the brand’s entire franchise development team receiving promotions. Joe Malmuth, CFE, moved into the role of Chief Franchising Officer from his previous role as Vice President of Franchise Development. Just as well, Vic Daher was promoted to Vice President of Franchise Development and Brandon Mangual to Managing Director of Franchise Development.
Building Community, Giving Back and Gaining Recognition
For many Batteries Plus owners, their favorite part of franchising with such a recognizable brand is the opportunity to get to know their community and give back. In 2022, we continued our partnership with U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots as National Corporate Donors in an exclusive partnership with Duracell, making 2022 our third year donating AA and AAA batteries to power children’s toys, for a total of almost 300,000 batteries donated since 2019.
Meanwhile, we’ve built plenty of momentum with national recognition, ranking no. 41 on Entrepreneur’s Top Franchise for Veterans, securing a spot on the list for the ninth year in a row. Batteries Plus also ranked #130 on Franchise Times Top 400 list and was recognized with the 2022 Leadership Award in Shareholder Value by one of their highly valued national account customers, Johnson Controls.
Finally, we topped off the year by making Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 list for the 30th year in a row – gaining 53 spots over last year’s ranking!
Looking Ahead in 2023
Even after closing out a booming 2022, the Batteries Plus franchise shows no signs of slowing down, working toward our new goal to acquire 60 additional store signings this year – and you can be a part of it all.
